Just when I thought nothing can surprise me, as long as there are no baby balcony stunts and Jacko being dressed as a transvestite, VMA comes and he totally gets booed. Who would’ve thought this would happen? Jacko is eccentric in may ways but when it comes to performing he was no. 1.
As I said yesterday, I was really looking forward seeing his performance again. Just when he got up to the stage, the crowd is chanting Thriller, Thriller night.. and that’s it. That’s all Jacko was singing. The rest of the song was sung by Chris Brown, who was probably thrilled to have this opportunity, but the crowd, on the other hand, was not happy at all.
Michael was booed as soon as he left the stage, and I’m sure this may well go down in pop history as Jackson's worst ever stage showing, perhaps even beating the fiasco of his 1996 performance at the Brits, when Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker stormed the stage in an attempt to mock Jacko during his performance of Earth Song.
Earlier that evening Jacko won the award for the recognition of his achievement in selling more than 100 million records over the course of his career.
He walked onto the stage to a standing ovation this time, after Beyonce, who presented him with the award, declared: "If it wasn't for Michael Jackson, I would never ever have performed."
In a characteristically bizarre acceptance speech, Jackson subsequently told the audience:
"I love you. God has answered my prayers. Thriller has become the biggest-selling album of all time, with 140 million sold. I love all the fans from the bottom of my heart. I love England," he gushed.
